The Calchaqui Valleys
Day 01: The journey starts from Salta city to the south, through route 68 going past different towns of Lerma Valley. Arrival to Cachi at lunch time. The trip continues down route 40 to admire mountainous landscapes with towns of great enchantment. Bordering the Calchaquí river, you can observe historical towns such as Seclantas, Molinos, Angastaco, San Carlos and Animana. By the end of the afternoon we arrive to Cafayate, where we spend the night.
Day 02: On the following day we visit some wineries, and after having lunch, we return to Salta through The Shells´ Gorge, visiting the peculiar rock formations caused by the rain and wind, such as The Amphitheatre, or The Devil´s Throat. We arrive to Salta after crossing The Lerma Valley. With Quilmes We visit some wineries and leave towards Quilmes ruins. After lunch we return to “Salta” through the “Quebrada de las Conchas” (the Shells) and the “Lerma” Valley.

Cafayate
An interesting visit to the "Lerma" Valley, in its greater extension, to observe the tobacco cultivation and towns of colonial architecture as "Alemania" (Germany), to where the “Belgrano” railroad arrived. Heading to “Cafayate”, the road goes through, the amazing rock formation called “Quebrada de las Conchas” (or “Cafayate”), enjoying the peculiar and intenselycoloured formations eroded by the wind and the water: “Los Medanos”, “El Sapo”, “El Obispo” (the bishop), “La Graganta del Diablo” (the throat of the devil), “Los castillos” ( the castles), “El Anfiteatro” (the amphitheatre), among others. Soon it is continued by the national route. 68, arriving at the town of “Cafayate” after crossing the last 2 km of the route bordered by poplars; Here we visit the vineyards and wineries in the area, tasting original crops as “Torrontes”. Finally, It is returned to “Salta” by the same route.
