The site of Machu Picchu is considered one of the best preserved examples of a major Inca site. However, basic questions like why it was built in such a difficult location and what does it mean had remain unanswered. It is demonstrated that the site is situated in the centre of the sacred mountains and next to a sacred river which turn is linked with the sunís passage, thereby forming a cosmological and sacred geographical centre.
